The very best in small rotorcraft, designed and made in the UK.

About Us

Snelflight was founded in 1997 by Phil Jermyn, Roderick Snell and Joe Wilcox, to develop, manufacture and market a novel concept for an indoor model helicopter. Two years later we launched the Hoverfly, which back then was the first indoor model helicopter to reach the marketplace. The Hoverfly sold well and we went on to develop further models many of which were "firsts", including the first indoor Chinook helicopter model, the first indoor vertical take-off aeroplane, and the smallest (still!) single-channel hovering UFO.

We continue to develop new products, and our latest model, the QuadPod remains true to our ideals of well thought out solid design, rugged simplicity of construction and superb control characteristics. We have always made our models accessible to new pilots, so ease of set-up is designed in from the start. They "just work" with minimal complication, and are excellent machines with which to learn to fly.

Roderick Snell and Joe Wilcox are both semi-retired, and Snelflight is headed up by Phil Jermyn and his wife Molly. Both development and manufacturing are done in our UK premises and this accessibility allows us to provide some of the best customer support in the industry, something which we are very proud of. We are always happy to answer questions whether technical or not, and to sort out any difficulties.

Who we are

Roderick Snell, pictured here with his Rotorway Exec helicopter, was the founder and former chairman of Snell and Wilcox Ltd, a world-leading manufacturer of broadcast video equipment. Rotorcraft are a second passion, and he decided to found Snelflight after seeing demonstations of the original Hoverfly prototypes.

He is now semi-retired, but remains actively involved with Snelflight's development.

Phil Jermyn grew up with an insatiable passion for inventing, designing and making things, and went on to graduate in Electronic Engineering at university. After a few years working as a freelance designer, he decided to co-found Snelflight as a way to fulfil his dream of becoming a practising inventor.

The adage that invention is "1% inspiration and 99% perspiration" is absolutely true, with a tremendous effort needed to take an idea from concept through to a reliable and appealing manufactured product. However it is all worthwhile when a new design finally makes it onto the market. Phil has a large portfolio of successful past designs, many of which are novel flying machines, developed both for Snelflight and for other manufacturers.

Molly Jermyn, pictured here with Phil whilst in Hong Kong, is a devoted mother but also lends her energy to the running of the family business. Molly grew up in Portland,Oregon, USA, and has been involved with Snelflight from its beginnings.
